What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

CBT is a widely recognized and effective form of psychotherapy that can help individuals improve their mental health by addressing their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors. It is a goal-oriented and collaborative approach. 

What is EMDR Therapy?

 

​EMDR is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma and other distressing experiences or memories that lead to depression and anxiety.

  • How it works:
    • Bilateral Stimulation: During EMDR therapy, individuals focus on a disturbing memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, which can be eye movements, tapping, or other rhythmic stimulation. 
    • Processing Traumatic Memories: By recalling the traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation, the brain is able to process the memory in a way that reduces its emotional intensity and allows for a more adaptive resolution. 
    • Structured Approach: EMDR therapy follows a structured eight-phase approach, which includes history-taking, preparation, assessment, desensitization, installation, body scan, closure, and reevaluation

  • Developed by: EMDR was developed by psychologist Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1987. 
  • Benefits: EMDR therapy can help individuals reduce the emotional distress associated with traumatic memories, improve their overall well-being, and enhance their ability to cope with difficult situations. ​

What is Grief Counseling?

 

It's important to remember that grief is a deeply personal experience with no universal path. Everyone navigates it in their own way. Your grief responses may include:

  • Shock
  • Disbelief or denial
  • Anxiety
  • Emotional distress
  • Anger
  • Moments of sadness
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Changes in appetite

Counseling can help you address some of the reactions as you process your new reality.
